Phantom of the Opera had an unprecedented run on Broadway in the last 35 years. It is the longest-running musical in Broadway’s history and has been an icon on West 44th Street through the years. However, on April 16, 2023, Phantom said goodbye to its mourning “phans” after performing on Majestic Theatre’s stage 13,981 times since January 1988.
Reports of the musical’s closure said ticket sales were not enough to cover weekly production costs, which were reportedly pegged at $1 million. The financial difficulty started during the pandemic, and the show’s attendance could not return to pre-pandemic numbers. In 35 years, “Phantom” has won over 70 theatre awards. Among these are seven Tony Awards, seven Drama Desk Awards in its inaugural year, three Olivier Awards, and five Outer Critic Circle Awards. While “Phantom” will no longer be seen in New York, the musical will continue to run in other cities such as London, Osaka, and Trieste. Unbound, formerly known as the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, is a nonprofit organization that serves the needs of marginalized and vulnerable sectors of society, particularly children and the elderly. One of its programs is child sponsorship, in which a sponsor is matched with a sponsored friend. In addition to financial aid being extended by the sponsor to the sponsored friend, they build a unique relationship by exchanging letters and photographs with each other.
In the summer of 2023, Unbound reached a historic milestone when the one millionth sponsored friend was matched with a sponsor. The sponsor friend was a six-year-old girl living in Rwanda. She and her family will receive financial support. The sponsor was Jonathan Roumie, the actor who played the character of Jesus in the TV series “The Chosen.” Unbound president and CEO Ashley Hufft thanked the supporters who continued to help the organization make an impact across three regions of the globe. For Unbound co-founder Bob Hentzen, the historic milestone of reaching the one millionth sponsor friend was just the beginning of the adventure toward “lifting one million more out of poverty.” Formerly known as the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, Unbound is an international nonprofit organization with a mission rooted in the biblical call to prioritize the needs of marginalized communities. A senior sales executive from Dublin, Ohio, Zariq Siddiqui has over 20 years of experience in sales and distribution, working for various firms across the United States. Zariq Siddiqui is a family man and the father of three children. The family is currently doing college tours for his son.
Participating in college tours before enrolling in an institution is crucial, as it gives one a sense of the campus, helps them answer vital questions, and allows them to explore academic options. However, one should typically schedule their tour before visiting a campus to make the most of it and ensure they get the necessary information. Before visiting colleges, it is a good idea to research various institutions and shortlist those that are worth visiting. Considering factors like majors that might be pursued, the schools’ locations and facilities, the minimum qualifications required, and the different programs the schools offer is crucial in this process. It also helps to visit a variety of small and large campuses to determine one’s ideal fit. Selecting dates to visit the shortlisted schools is another crucial consideration, since some colleges have designated visiting times and periods. In such cases, scheduling the visit early enough is important to avoid missing application deadlines and scholarship opportunities. Summer is an ideal time to schedule a visit since many people are not in school. One should also contact a school’s admissions department (whether through a phone call or online) to make requests about the visit. When doing so, they can ask to visit specific places on campus, meet professors, or spend a night at the school to get a better feel for the experience. Many colleges may require individuals to submit essential information like name, gender, and address. With a passion for reading, Zariq Siddiqui particularly enjoys books that explore business leadership principles and how to optimize daily activities. One such volume is Stephen Covey’s The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
The second habit explored in the book as worth cultivating is “begin with the end in mind.” What this means is that one should already have a clear idea of the desired destination before starting on a path. All too often, people become consumed in the busy routine of daily life and lose sight of what really motivates them and makes them feel complete. Many find themselves working hard for tangible success, but fail to progress, as they are lacking a clear vision of what that success would look like. Covey describes this phenomenon and how to resolve it with the idea that all things are created twice: first as a mental idea and later as a manifestation of that in the real world. One way of avoiding the “activity trap” of effort for its own sake is to develop a personal mission statement that brings goals into focus and moves toward actualizing them. With such a statement in place, actions taken become steps toward a larger, clearly visualized goal. Gilboa Quarry is in northwest Ohio. It is a 14-acre limestone quarry with wooded campgrounds surrounding half of its perimeter and an inland space for scuba diving. Gilboa Quarry began as a limestone quarry in the 1890s and continued to function until 1990 when it became a scuba diving quarry. Gilboa Quarry is one of the most famous scuba diving and scuba diving training facilities in Ohio State. The quarry has two unique features: the shallow side, with depths of 5 to 65 feet, is ideal for recreational use, and the deep side, with depths of 130 feet or more, is suitable for technical training. For nearly 30 years, the quarry has been a popular scuba diving spot. It is a popular spot for free divers and snorkelers of all levels. There are side attractions that divers can explore, such as the underwater airplane, helicopter, school bus, and other objects. A sales professional and supervising administrator, Zariq Siddiqui has served in a number of sales leadership positions with Abbot Laboratories over the past 23 years. An avid reader of business and teambuilding books, Zariq Siddiqui ranks Emotional Intelligence for the Modern Leader among his favorites.
Written by Christopher D. Connors, Modern Leader was published in 2020. Connors identifies four pillars of high emotional intelligence (EQ) leadership: self-awareness, self-management, motivation, and empathy. Those seeking to boost their EQ and enjoy the professional benefits that go hand in hand with this boost can begin by developing the firm foundation that these four pillars provide. As the first pillar, self-awareness is the starting point that makes the remaining three pillars possible. To identify the best path to higher EQ, one must begin with a self-examination and reflection in a realistic and practical manner. A focused inward examination will also help aspiring leaders understand and support team members. To better foster self-awareness, author Christopher D. Connors recommends keeping a daily journal of active personal reflections. Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that provides housing solutions to people who cannot afford decent housing. In 2021, Habitat for Humanity had a mission in Liberia, where it provided safe water and hygiene or sanitation services to over 30,000 people. With the help of other organizations such as World Hope International and YMCA, Habitat for Humanity led a small water project with solar pumps that began offering safe drinking water to people. The project also included the construction of other important features for hygiene such as bio-eco sanitation toilets and community toilets. The new systems and facilities were all part of the goal of the organization, which is to offer comfortable housing. Decent housing often starts with sanitation and hygiene, as without them, the minimum conditions are not met. In his spare time, Zariq Siddiqui follows the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills.
The franchise was formed in 1960 as one of the initial teams in the American Football League, which later merged with the NFL. It was the second professional football team to bear the name, the first having played in the old All-America Football Conference. Losses marked its first two seasons, but the Bills adopted winning ways with the arrival of quarterback Jack Kemp and running back Cookie Gilchrist. Beginning in 1964, they played in three straight AFL championships and were one game away from a berth in the first Super Bowl in 1967. Slumping, the Bills racked up a dismal 1-12-1 season in 1968, which allowed them to draft one of their biggest stars, running back O. J. Simpson. Unfortunately, Simpson’s record-breaking rushing translated into only one postseason appearance in eight years. Fortune again smiled on the Bills with the advent of quarterback Jim Kelly, whose face-paced offense took them back to the playoffs. Their momentum carried them to the 1991 Super Bowl, the first of four consecutive appearances (a league record). Their first title appearance was spoiled by a last-second loss to the New York Giants because of a missed field goal. In their second championship appearance, they lost to the Washington Redskins. The Bills first had to overcome a 32-point deficit in a wild card matchup to make their third Super Bowl slot. Success again eluded them as they fell to the Dallas Cowboys, who bested them again the following year. Key players departed later in the 1990s; the Bills spent much of the 2000s and 2010s in the middle of the standings. After 18 years, they returned to the postseason in 2017, only to lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills had better luck in 2020, advancing to the American Football Conference championship, won by Kansas City. |
